Richard joined the US Army in 1970.  He served 1 tour in Germany, 2 tours in Korea and several deployments with the 101st Airborne Division which included a deployment with the Multinational Forces in Egypt and Israel.  Richard retired as a SSG in 1990.  He currently serves as District 1 Commander and as Chairman of the Dare County Veterans Advisory Council.
